How to Follow Your Dream When You Don’t Know What It Is

Do you ever feel overwhelmed when you hear, "Just follow your dream"? It sounds so simple, yet the reality of discovering that dream can be far more complex.

Perhaps you've tried countless classes and workshops, hoping something would resonate—pottery, cooking, salsa, sports—but nothing quite sticks. You might have a multitude of interests, yet none seem to align with a deeper sense of purpose.

Perhaps you are simply not feeling inspired right now.

It's more common than you think.

The truth is most of us DO know who we are, but have been conditioned to believe otherwise. We're told our passions aren't practical or profitable enough, so we continue searching for that elusive purpose, hoping the next endeavor will provide clarity.

But what if our purpose isn't about finding a singular passion that fits a predetermined mold? What if it's about aligning our lives with our values and following the joy that resonates within us?

Consider the underlying values that these activities fulfil. Ask yourself, what about this activity brings me joy. If brunch with friends brings you joy, it might signify a deep-seated value for connection and community.

Recognizing these values is key to uncovering your purpose.

Reflect on where you invest your time and money - and be honest—this can reveal what truly matters to you. Embrace these values and find ways to integrate them more fully into your life. When we align our life to our values, things start to fall into place naturally.

Understand that each of us possess unique gifts and perspectives and are designed to contribute to the world in a meaningful way. You have a purpose here, that's why you are here in this moment. There is no one else on earth like you. Ask yourself what would bring you joy in this moment and take the first step towards that, without the pressure of knowing the entire journey ahead. Trust that as you align with your truth and take action guided by your heart, the path will unfold naturally.

Do it for the love of the journey, not the reward.

The key is to avoid becoming fixated on specific outcomes—true fulfillment often arises when we engage wholeheartedly in the process and in service to others. Let go of expectations and allow action to inspire your next step.  Your dream will evolve and manifest as you continue to follow your heart's calling.
